Donald Lively

If our adventure was to be described as a mission, then I would be the leader.  Most of the time though, I will just be the father and husband.

I'm the one who does all the maintenance on the RV, all of the outside prep, and the driving, when the going gets tight.  Misty drives more on the interstates and highways so I can work or relax in the passenger seat.

I am retired from active duty with the West Virginia Army National Guard with 23 years of service.

  3. It's just not the same without your towering presence at Amazon Don. Both parking lots went from full to capacity to 75% empty overnight after Christmas. Surely you're not opposed to coming back next peak season to serve time in the "the attic". Hope that you're having a blast now that you're back on the road.

    1. It was real and it was fun, but it was not real fun. You do not know how happy I am that me and my wife no longer work there. I still have a blister in between my left foot big and middle toes that is just now starting to go away. We will miss everyone we met and made friends with, like you, but that type of work is not for me. God Bless and I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Don

    2. Amazon wasn't for me either but it was a necessary evil to ENDURE. I went through my savings taking care of mom to keep her out of a nursing home. I was out of the work force for 6 long years and nobody else would touch me when my siblings finally stepped up and took on some responsibility for mom. Today I was able to declare my freedom from Amazon as well...although it was not by choice.

In early December Amazon offered me a full time job on D shift through their conversion process; on Christmas Eve they sent me an email saying my conversion was placed on hold because of a misdemeanor (family squabble over mom's healthcare). I went to SMX 2 days ago to attempt to explain how meaningless it was for a 54 year old guy with no criminal background whatsoever and a 20 year history as a professional real estate broker and appraiser. They didn't care; rather than assist in the conversion process Amazon called me today to let me go. Perfect attendance, never late, and daily production rates in the 150% to 197% range every day meant to them. Worse yet SMX won't provide a copy of your attendance and production rate so that you can obtain future employment.

Adios Amazon. Glad to see that your stock is crashing hard this month.

    3. David,

So sorry to hear that! We will be praying for you. If you trust in God then you know that he has a plan for all of us and you will end up better off.

As a Govt contractor I am too aware of how a background check can forfeit one's employment. Most of the time you do not get a chance to explain what happened and why.

Good men are sometimes handed bad deals in life, but then take them and make them better. You seem to be one who will rise from the ashes, dust yourself off, and do something better than Amazon.

God bless and stay in touch. We will be praying that everything works out for you.

      Don

  4. Thanks Don, I am convinced that you are right. Until He reveals his plan I console myself with the fact that Amazon's stock has lost 16% of it's value in less than 3 weeks. It appears that God had a plan for Jeff Bezos & Company as well. LOL I see my future in web design. I've dabbled in it for over a decade as a hobby and it beats building 2,000 boxes a day.
