Our New RV
This is the 2011 Fleetwood Discovery 40G RV which we will be living in for the unforeseen future with our seven children. We are selling our 3000 square foot house and moving into a 41 foot RV to explore America and Canada and supplement our children's homeschool education.
There will be nine of us total starting with myself, Donald Lively, who is retired from the WV Army National Guard with 23 years of Active Duty, my wife Misty, who was in the WV Army National Guard for nine years and is now a full-time mom, our son Jered (Misty's step-son), who just turned sixteen, Ethan who will be nine tomorrow, Courtney who is eight, Tia who is six, Ian who is five, Avery who is three, and Chloe who is one.
Needless to say, it is a full boat, but we have no problem with it and feel the overall experience we have will outweigh the cramped quarters.
We will be leaving Elkview, West Virginia sometime late May or early June 2012 to start our adventure. We will be moving into the RV early May, staying at a near by camp ground until we pull stakes and start down the road.
I hope to post something every week on our journey and experiences.
Follow along to see how well we do. Some family members only give us three months while others give us six. We plan on proving them all wrong.

DeleteWow, amazing! I salute you both for undertaking this journey with your kids. They will have the best experiences in life as they travel.
ReplyDeleteThanks for following our blog. We studied Alaska and planned it for a year as this was our big adventure for the year. Feel free to ask us anything if you have any questions about travelling to Alaska.

How’s the RV life, Donald? Transitioning from a house to an RV may be a bit challenging, especially when you’re doing it with your family. But once you get over that phase, your life will be simpler AND filled with adventures at the same time. Hope your family’s doing great!

We do not miss our house at all and so far have no regrets. I just told Misty yesterday, while sitting in a hottub where we are staying, that the only thing I do miss about the house is our own, private, hottub. We just bought a new one a few months prior to selling the house.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently setting right on the beach with a wonderful view of the Atlantic Ocean and loving every minute. Thanks for asking.

Oh wow, Donald, all 9 of you in an RV! That’s definitely worth more than a few stories for your kids to tell in the future! I’m glad to hear that you guys are enjoying the experience so far. I’m sure you would be. Haha! How many kids can say their front yard is a beach? Hehehe!

Liza,
DeleteOur sixteen year old, from my previous marriage, decided to go back to live with his mother in OH, so we are down to eight.
Yes, we all will have some stories to tell and hopefully will gain plenty more as we see all of America.
We have no regrets and are loving our lifestyle.
Thanks for the comment!

Your new RV looks amazing, Donald! It may take some time to get used to living in an RV, but I believe you can pull it off. Having a mobile home has both its pros and cons; nevertheless, checking your RV for parts that need repair or replacement is very much advised to avoid problems in the future. Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Howard,
DeleteThanks for the info and encouragement. We have been living in the RV now for over a year and love everything about it. There have been challenges, but nothing we have not been able to overcome.
Thanks!
